Born in Arlington,Texas in 1982, Amber Michelle Peek left her hometown for Los Angeles at the age of 21. In 2003, Peek met Tommy Thayer of the international rock band KISS. The two married 2006. Amber took his name as her own, and traveled with him over the next decade on various tour, personal retreats, and charitable engagements.
Thayer founded her namesake house in 2008, and has since run her private atelier from her home in Los Angeles, California. For her first collection, she presented looks composed of large, bold materials and delicate tassel skirts, fastened together with various methods of braiding, metal work, crochet, and macramé. This original point of view marked the resounding debut of a decade long career in jewelry design.
In the winter of 2011, Amber met Nancy Cooke de Herrera, who guided Amber through a series of exercises in the art of transcendental meditation over the course of four consecutive days at Mrs. de Herrera's private home in Beverly Hills. This experience drastically changed Amber's approach to jewelry design and life.
Thayer has spent the past decade redesigning her work around her clientele's energies rather than her own aesthetic, while pushing her focus to a more spirit-centric approach. Staying true to her vision, Thayer selects her materials, chooses her bonding techniques, and crafts each item with each wearer in mind.
Thayer's goal is to make one-of-a-kind items capable of both expressing and feeding each client's soul.
As she likes to say, "if you're going to make a statement, let your spirit do the talking."
Inspiration | Nancy Cooke de Herrera
In winter of 2011, Amber met Nancy Cooke de Herrera, who guided Amber through a series of exercises in the art of transcendental meditation over the course of four consecutive days at Mrs. de Herrera's private home in Beverly Hills. This experience led to a friendship that lasted through the end of Mrs. de Herrera's life. Amber's approach to jewelry has been undoubtably shaped by her experiences with Mrs. de Herrera, who inspired her to focus her design on the inward relation of the materials to their owner.
Amber's fundamental inspiration is the human spirit. Its purity, light, power, and strength are key elements of her designs. Her fascination with intense colors and raw, un-manufactured gem cuts, have become trademarks of her designs. Amber has sought with each piece to create something that feeds the soul of both its wearer and its audience. Her bold use of large, often unchanged materials combined with her humble Texan spirit have wooed the attention of auteurs of fashion and jewelry worldwide.
